Why do Women hate their Curly hair?
As a hairstylist of 11 yrs, It has come to my complete attention that within a world of ultra trendy city slickers, comes a plethora of geometrically sophisticated haircuts and styles dominating straight haired women. Straight Hair that is cut with precision can exhibit a profound shape yet still possess the flowing tresses that women crave. Straight hair for women can actually empower them into feeling like a sex symbol while projecting it through their locks that sway in the breeze.
The graceful motion of the hair sweeping the shoulders from side to side can be intoxicating to men and women alike, we are hypnotized by the movement and the shine of freshly blow dried hair. So, this leads me to the curly haired girls. Volume! Volume! Volume!! Frizz. Frizz. Frizz. As women with curly hair walk , the hair does not swing like silk fringes on a flapper dress. More often than not, it will bounce off the shoulders in one big chunk of fuzz.
Curly hair is much more still and naturally set, thus causing the hair to merely shift up and down at best . No swaying , no sweeping, and no finely tuned precision cutting; just bouncing. The texture alone can make a woman feel like scouring the dishes with her own hair. This feeling of wearing an SOS pad on their head can lead to feelings of being a frumpy housewife with no glamour or style. Hence why these women flock to the salons for their regularly scheduled straight blow dries.
Once a stylist is behind them with a round brush and silicone- heat-activated -multi-conditioning - straightening serum in hand, do they feel like they will transform from frumpy astro-turfed housewife into a city sophisticate. Little do the curly haired women know , but the straight haired women are also fleeing from the board rooms at lunch for their stylist’s hand at the curling iron and rollers . And for what you ask? For curls and yes….VOLUME VOLUME VOLUME ! They are also looking for a style revolution .
Stylists at times can seem like fairy godmothers of hair, however, once the clock strikes twelve, like Cinderella at the ball, the magic is gone. By the next day or the next shampoo its back to reality for the women and their hair’s natural texture.
It is up to hairstylists to offer women with curls a way to free them of the psychological and physical burden of wanting straight hair. Curly hair has the potential to look soft and be flowing yet with no frizz.
We must first execute a cut that allows the curl to fall freely in its natural state, and upon this , educate the women on how to use hair products and tools specifically designed for curly hair. Once a head of curly hair is manipulated properly , the hair can look ethereal , feel soft , and move angelically in the wind. Curly hair possesses voluptuous curves and innate design with ultra-sexy volume if the wave of nature is embraced.
The funny thing is that everyone desires what they don’t have. If it were up to me , women of the world would be happy with what god gave them. They would be much more content in every day and they would be truly empowered. Although….if they were all happy with what they have then I would be out of a job!
